Mike's response to rock star Jessica in prior post

Awesome, Jess! Congrats!  Don't mean to steal any spotlight, but I was also recently interviewed by someone very prestigious.
-Mike

How do you rank in terms of athleticism in your family:
I am extremely mediocre at most all sports on my best days.  Near the middle.

Favorite sports memory:
Intramural soccer, We were up by four with twenty minutes remaining.  I was fouled in the box, and got a penalty kick. Smacked it in the right side for a goal!

Your favorite learning experience:
I would have to say when I learned that the reason I am no good at golf is I might be hitting with the wrong hand.

Most addictive snack food:
McDonalds.

Anything in particular?
I could probably narrow it down to cheeseburgers, big macs, fries, nuggets with honey, and quarter pounders.

Do you have any mentionable dreams or aspirations:
I have this one every once in a while, but i often wake up without the hidden treasure.

Thank you.

Thank you, it was the pleasure was all mine.

Evan's response to Mike and Jess

Great article, Jess. I know you didn't want to embarass me by mentioning my name (best advice...most significant athletic influence), so thanks for that. Plus there's your mom.

Mike, I loved your favorite sports memory. I felt like I was right there with you- the elation, knowing that it  would be hard for them to overcome that 5-goal lead with 20 minutes left.....beautiful.

JESS FUGATE
Gannon - Business Major

Wooser, Ohio / Wooster HS

Fugate is a junior midfieler for the Golden Knights women's lacrosse team who has evolved into one of the top scorers in the league.  She started every match her first season and was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year in 2010 after scoring 30 goals.  She lifted that total to 45 goals a year ago on her way to second-team All-PSAC honors.  Fugate is having another strong season, having posted a team-high 62 points on 31 goals and 31 assists through 12 games in 2012.
Why did you choose Gannon?

I chose Gannon because of the lacrosse program.  On my college visit I stepped on the field and played alongside Taryn Millerd and Mary Eshenour.  Their lacrosse talent, field vision and finesse amazed me and from then on I wanted to be a part of the team.  I’ve learned so much from them in the last two seasons!
What is the biggest adjustment you had to make going from high school to college?I had to come out of my shell. I used to be very shy, but in college you have to be loud on the field and involve yourself in the classroom. I am a business major and I have become more outgoing from my courses and experiences.
What are your career plans?I would love to work for a professional sports team once I graduate, but my dream job is to work for Red Frog Events in Chicago, Illinois.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?“Never get complacent!!!!” – Steve Wagner

This is the best advice I’ve ever been given because I use it in all aspects of life. On the lacrosse field, in class, and I will use it in my future career. He is a very wise man.
What is the thing you’ve enjoyed most about college?
Being part of a team. All of the girls are different in their own way, but once we step on the field we have the love of the game and the drive to win that brings us together. I love my team and being a member of it is the best part of college.

What is your top collegiate athletics memory?
In the 2011 season the score was 10-11, Mercyhurst was winning. Mary Eshenour had the ball at the 40-yard line with eight seconds left in overtime, the whistle blew and she made a ‘hail mary’ pass to me in the 8-meter. I caught the ball and scored to tie the game with three seconds left and we went on to win the game in double overtime. It is my greatest memory and every time I look back on that day I get the biggest smile on my face.

What person has had the most significant influence on you from an athletics perspective?
My mother. She is one incredible woman! She has driven me to hundreds of practices, games, and tournaments in my life. It is hard to put in words how much she has influenced me, but one time in particular sticks out the most. I was a sophomore in high school and I was selected to try out for the Great Lakes National Team. My nerves were getting the better of me and I asked her if we could call it a day and head home. She looked at me and said, “Go out there and play as hard as you can, you have nothing to lose.” I made the team; it was like she knew I was going to make it the whole time.

SeniorDay
What do you consider your most memorable athletic accomplishment throughout your life?
SENIOR NIGHT 2009. I walked the field in pouring rain with my mom and dad at my side, my biggest fans right behind me (Poppy & Papa), my teammates all around me, and my family and friends in the stands. That night I broke the school record for most goals in a season and set the career goals record higher. It was a great accomplishment that I will never forget.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Cherie Greer. She was an inspiration to me when I was growing up because of her pure talent, hard work, and success.
Among athletes in the family, where do you rate?I think I am close to the top because I have played almost every sport there is - gymnastics, basketball, softball, hockey, figure skating, and of course lacrosse.  My younger brother is an amazing hockey player and he was just named captain of his high school team.
What is your favorite pro sports team?

The Pittsburgh Penguins.  I grew up in a hockey family and I love watching them.  They are a hard working and aggressive team (and they have Sidney Crosby).
If I could go pro in any sport it would be:

Figure skating.  I love watching the Olympics and other ice skating competitions and I’ve always wanted to be able to do the jumps and be graceful like the pros.
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?I have to tie my laces in as many double knots as possible.  Then, when I get to the draw circle I have a routine that I do before the first face-off of every game to help me focus.
My hidden talent is:Hula hooping.  I’d accept a hula hooping challenge any day of the week!
What is your favorite vacation spot?
JEKYLL ISLAND, GEORGIA.  I spent a lot of time with my family there because my cousin was getting married on the island. It was peaceful, beautiful, and relaxing. The beaches there are amazing and the sunsets could quite possibly be the best in the world.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Ryan Gosling!  He is so dreamy and I could watch his movies all day!
Jeckyll
If I could change one thing about the sport I play, it would be:More contact!  It would bring a whole new level of intensity to the game if it was more physical.
Words your coach says that you swear you can hear in your sleep:“READYYYYY"…… *whistle*
What’s on your Ipod during pregame?

Mac Miller, Nicki Minaj, and Metallica.  An odd combination, but if it’s loud and pumps you up, I’m listening to it.  The last song I listen to before a game is always “Drop the World” by Lil Wayne. It’s a ritual!
The most addictive snack food for me is:Ritz crackers and peanut butter. Before games, after games, between classes, it’s the perfect snack!

Sport I would look bad doing, and why:
GOLF. I’m ambidextrous so I have to play with two sets of clubs. Drive right, putt left, and for any other shot it depends on the location of the ball. It’s pretty ugly to watch.
